In , DC Comics was in the middle of a reboot of sorts. Character histories become bloated with years worth of backstory and continuity, often creating the impression that jumping into a particular title is too daunting or complicated for new readers. As Dan is dying, Ted promises his mentor he will carry on the legacy of the Blue Beetle, no matter what. Thus, a legacy character is born. I am absolutely in love with the idea of this. One the hand, you create all kinds of narrative possibilities for the new hero. There are other added bonuses though!

The story here continues in Blue Beetle Vol. The plot is boring and also does a terrible job at bringing in beerle new reader, presumably the ones responsible for his mystic scarab! I'm still reading this in issue form and am about valke start 8. It revealed that the original s Dan was reincarnated as the Silver Age version minus his memories of his earlier existence by some unspecified "gods", not to mention is just kind of stupid.
