The best book I own. This one is kind of a Sisyphus story in Japanese packaging - all individually wrapped, with a focus on one character in particular. As the story progresses, there is a moment of illumination or Satori which falls upon the Ronin as he prepares to kill the tunneling sage, but strangely unsatisfying. As in all Zen tales.

A novel based on Zen mythology, this story is told with humour and irony, in the tradition of realistic Zen mysticism. It is the tale of Ronin, a masterless.
